New WSU general education changes promotes seamless community college transfer
In order to satisfy WSU's general education requirements (i.e., the first two years of a four-year undergraduate degree program), Kansas community college students transferring to WSU with an associate of arts or science will only need to take two additional upper division courses at WSU beyond their associate degree.
"The upper division requirement is already required in many of the majors at WSU, so in a lot of cases students will be able to work in these courses as a part of their major coursework," said Tony Vizzini, vice president for Academic Affairs.
In the past, some community college students were required to complete many more credit hours at WSU to satisfy the general education requirement, adding more time to complete a four-year degree. This opportunity is extended further to associate degree nurses and dental hygienists who have completed such degrees at accredited institutions in the United States and desire a bachelor degree from WSU in their field.
"This work follows goals outlined by the Kansas Board of Regents strategic plan, Foresight 2020, which calls for ways to promote seamless transfer and decrease the amount of time it takes to complete a four-year degree," said Vizzini.
