The University of Wichita joined the state system of higher education as Wichita State University 50 years ago on July 1, 1964. To mark the occasion, Jay Price led his History of Kansas class in the singing of Happy Birthday to WSU. "Given that I was leading it, we didn't sing it well, but we did sing it," said Price, who was dressed for the occasion by wearing a black shirt and gold tie. He also is flying the WSU flag at home. Price said this also is the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the Corbin Education Center, which happened just days before WSU joined the state system.
