* Join us as we celebrate the grand opening of Shocker Hall, Wichita State's most recent housing expansion, at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, for the dedication and open house. Tours of the facilities, information on living learning communities and light refreshments will be provided. This event is open to the public.
* A number of additional Affordable Care Act classes are available between now and Friday, Aug 1. This class will include a presentation to introduce the main concepts of the Affordable Care Act and how it affects managers and timekeepers. If you have questions, email lana.anthis@wichita.edu. * Student Activities Council will host its annual "Kiss'Um Bye" event, which acts as a WSU department fair and provides students the opportunity to learn more about department's services and impact on campus. The event will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, on the RSC's main patio. To register for a table, go to http://www.wichita.edu/kissumbye and register by Friday, Aug. 15. * Bill Vanderburgh, executive director of the Office for Faculty Development and Student Success (OFDSS) and associate professor in the department of philosophy, has accepted a position at California State University, San Bernardino. On Aug. 4, he will become the university's new associate vice president for academic affairs, dean of undergraduate studies, and professor of philosophy. In recognition of his accomplishments at WSU, a farewell reception will take place from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, July 24, in the RSC Pike Room (266). There will be remarks at 2:30 p.m.
* This week, Chamber Music at the Barn is playing host to the five-time Grammy nominated Fred Hersch Trio. Not only is Fred Hersch an incredible jazz pianist and composer, but he also began by taking composition lessons with WSU's Walter Mays.
