Campus chilled water shutdown planned this Thursday and Friday, Aug. 14-15
This shutdown does not affect independent building cooling systems, as building electric power service will not be shut down (i.e., McKinley Chemical Storage Facility, Ulrich Museum Vault and Henrion South 2nd Floor Studios will remain air conditioned).
Although ill-timed with the weather of the season, we are fortunate to get past this point of the project prior to the start of the fall semester next Monday. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 90s on Thursday and Friday, so office staff should be prepared for the conditions and sensitive materials, papers and chemicals should be stored in separately cooled areas while the regular air conditioning systems are offline.
Computer use in non-air conditioned areas should be minimized as much as possible to safeguard computer equipment under warm conditions.
There will be another shutdown in the next few weeks involving steam heating systems, but that shutdown will only affect some area reheat, humidity control and domestic hot water systems and certainly should be done before cool weather rolls around.
