Robinson, Colvin, attend national celebration of Upward Bound Programs
Additional participants in the event included Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education; Lynn Mahaffie, Acting Assistant Secretary, Office of Postsecondary Education; and Arnold L. Mitchem, President Emeritus, Council for Opportunity in Education and other individuals. Also in attendance was Deltha Q. Colvin, associate vice President for student Engagement at WSU.
The event celebrated the anniversary of the Upward Bound Program, enacted in 1964, and a celebration of the efforts of all of the TRIO Programs, which includes Wichita State University's Communication Upward Bound, Disability Student Support Services, Educational Opportunity Centers, Student Support Services, Talent Search, McNair Scholars, Upward Bound Math-Science, Upward Bound Wichita Prep and Veterans Upward Bound.
Wichita State also has Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) and eight College Access Grants administered by the Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education.
The WSU Upward Bound Program will be 50 years old in 2015 and is asking all individuals who participated in the programs to contact the office with contact information at 316-978-3019.
