Honors College welcomes Jeffrey Stephens

The Honors College welcomes Jeffrey Stephens, who will coordinate national fellowship applications (such as the Rhodes, Fulbright, Truman, Marshall and Goldwater) for students across campus. He will share responsibility for Honors academic advising, retention and recruitment with the Honors dean. Stephens began his new position with Honors on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Most recently, Stephens taught as an associate professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, where he was named a "Top 15" professor by the Pointer student newspaper.

He earned his doctorate in theatre history from The Ohio State University, a master's degree in speech and theatre from Oklahoma State University and a bachelor's degree in letters from the University of Oklahoma, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Stephens served as an academic advisor at Oklahoma State University Honors College and an assistant professor in the Department of Theatre at OSU, where he supervised the department's teaching assistants.

He taught at OSU for several years before moving to Wisconsin. In addition to his extensive teaching and advising background, Stephens brings to this new position his experience as a development director for the Lyric Opera of Chicago and a post-baccalaureate certificate in paralegal studies from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

He has led or co-led several theatre tours to the UK where he has lectured on late 19th and 20th century drama at the International Student House in London. He has participated in such theatre conferences as the International Ibsen Festival in Oslo, Norway; the Chekhov Festival in Kaliningrad, Russia; and the Sibiu International Theatre Festival in Romania.

Stephens has also published essays and reviews on international performance in peer-reviewed journals including Theatre Topics, Theatre Journal, Slavic and East European Performance and The Journal of American Drama and Theatre.
