* Words for Wellness: Thriving Through Diversity will be featured from noon-12:30 p.m. today (Monday, Oct. 6) in 142 RSC. This discussion will provide tips and insights for all who wish to turn barriers into bridges, taking advantage of the diversity we have at WSU. The program is sponsored by the Counseling and Testing Center.

* You are invited to a retirement reception for Charlotte Howard, director of Continuing Education, from 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in 138 Hughes Metropolitan Complex, with remarks at 4 p.m. Howard has worked at Wichita State for 28 years.

* David Parks, son of Gordon Parks, will attend a reception in his honor at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the WSU Marcus Welcome Center, before speaking about his book and his father's many accomplishments. Admission is free.

* It's time for the department door competition for Shocktoberfest, with a $100 office party to the winning department. The door decorations must showcase the theme "Jammin with Shocktoberfest," based on the movie "Space Jam." Entry forms can be found at http://www.wichita.edu/sac under annual events in Shocktoberfest 2014 and are due by 5 p.m. today (Monday, Oct. 6) to Student Involvement, 216 RSC. The door decorations must be completed by noon Monday, Oct. 20.

* The Office of Transitions and Orientation is seeking nominations for next year's transition mentor staff. Transition Mentors are responsible for transitioning students to WSU beginning in the summer with orientation and mentoring new freshmen through the fall semester.
