* Alexander White, author of "Be a Mensch: A Father's Legacy," one of the few surviving members of Schindler's List, will give a free talk at 4 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 30) in Ablah Library, just outside of Special Collections. Refreshments will be provided. White recently returned from Poland, his first return visit since the Holocaust, and he will speak about those experiences and much more.
* Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) supporters will have its annual Champagne and Chocolate fundraiser at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3. The event is sponsored by the Wichita Scottish Rite for WSU's Evelyn Hendren Cassat Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. * Convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death, it took more than 20 years for DNA evidence to free Curtis McCarty. He will share his story from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in 208 Hubbard Hall. http://www.wichita.edu/j/?3324
* The Office of Undergraduate Admissions invites faculty and staff to participate as an observer at this year's Distinguished Scholarship Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 6. The observers watch the students participate in small group activities and rate them on their leadership skills. The approximate time commitment will be from 7:30 a.m.-noon. A light breakfast is included along with a short training session. * It's time for the department door competition for Shocktoberfest, with a $100 office party to the winning department. The door decorations must showcase the theme "Jammin with Shocktoberfest," based on the movie "Space Jam." Entry forms can be found at http://www.wichita.edu/sac under annual events in Shocktoberfest 2014 and are due by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, to Student Involvement, 216 RSC. The door decorations must be completed by noon Monday, Oct. 20.
