* The Fall 2014 WSU Chemistry Colloquium series continues at 3:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 15) in 224 McKinley Hall, with a talk by Beth Levant from the University of Kansas Medical Center on "Effects of alterations in omega-3 DHA content in the adult brain: Implications for depression." * Lynne Davis will give a free half-hour concert on the great Marcussen Organ in Wiedemann Hall at 5:15 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 15) in Wiedemann Hall.

* The Knight Cities Challenge is seeking ideas to improve 26 U.S. cities, including Wichita. WSU faculty and staff are encouraged to submit their best ideas in 150 words or less, plus a single tweet. Do you have a great idea for making Wichita a more vibrant place to learn, work, live and play? The deadline is Friday, Nov. 14. There will be an information session in Wichita 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Loft 150, 150 N. Mosley Street in Old Town, above River City Brewery. * The deadline to apply for faculty grants through VentureWell (formerly NCIIA) is Friday, Nov. 7. VentureWell faculty grants support the creation of new courses and programs in which students develop ideas and gain the skills to bring them to market. Funding of up to $50,000 is available to fund new (or help modify existing) courses and programs in tech entrepreneurship. * Open enrollment closes Friday, Oct. 31. Until then all benefits-eligible employees are allowed to select new benefits options for Plan Year 2015. There are many changes, so review them and see how they will affect your 2015 benefits. Human Resources is hosting multiple informational meetings on campus starting today (Monday, Oct. 13). The state will also present webinars to inform you of the changes. You're encouraged to attend one of these sessions. Remember, all changes will be effective Jan. 1, 2015.
