WSU vanpooling
Vanpooling is a service that replaces personal vehicles with a van that the riders pitch in to operate, thus driving down the cost for everyone. According to AAA, the cost to operate a vehicle in the United States rose to 59 cents per mile. So, if you travel 15 miles or more to work each day, joining a vanpool could provide significant savings.
Who should consider vanpooling?
- Those driving 15 miles or more to work each day
- Those willing to share the ride with at least seven other people
- Those wanting to save money on the cost of driving
What are the advantages of vanpooling?
- Reduce wear and tear on your vehicle
- Cut fuel costs
- Reduce air pollution emissions
- Emergency ride guarantee
- Reserved parking on campus
- Drivers of the vanpool will have access to the vans outside of work for personal errands and activities
Employees that live and work near one another and share similar schedules can form a group that conveniently gets them between home and work. Each rider pays a low monthly fare based on distance and number of participants. This covers the cost of the vanpool including fuel, maintenance, insurance, tolls and roadside assistance. One of the participants volunteers to be the primary driver. He or she does not pay a fare and is also given access to the van for personal use.
