College of Engineering scholarship donors and recipients get acquainted at recent reception

About 100 people attended the WSU College of Engineering Scholarship Reception on Jan. 29 at the Marcus Welcome Center. Hosted by the WSU Foundation, the event brought together donors who have established scholarships for the college and the students who received them. Engineering Dean Royce Bowden provided remarks along with Dale Maltbie, retired president and CEO of Professional Engineering Consultants of Wichita.

Maltbie, who earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Wichita State, praised the educational experience he had here. He noted, however, how different it is from the experiential learning that engineering students receive today.

Maltbie and his wife, Debbie, have established a scholarship for engineering students from rural areas.

Also speaking at the event was Matthew Schrader, a scholarship recipient who is majoring in mechanical engineering.
