Wichita named a top 'advanced industry hub'
The report -- "America's Advanced Industries: What They Are, Where They Are, and Why They Matter" -- named Wichita the nation's No. 3 "advanced industry hub," with 15.5 percent of its workforce employed in the advanced industries sector. Only San Jose, Calif., (29.9 percent) and Seattle (16.0 percent) ranked higher. Advanced industries are defined as those deeply involved with technology research and development (R&D) and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). The report predicts that these industries will be the "central component of any future revitalized U.S. economy."
As a vital meeting place for students, industry and university research, WSU's Innovation Campus is well positioned to capitalize on and enhance Wichita's growing reputation in this sector. By taking research to the next level, we will further our mission as an essential educational, cultural and economic driver for Kansas and the greater public good.
