Jorgensen named inaugural department chair of Biomedical Engineering

Michael Jorgensen was recently named as the inaugural department chair of Biomedical Engineering. According to Royce Bowden, dean of the College of Engineering, Jorgensen's leadership in developing the bioengineering program into a thriving Department of Biomedical Engineering is commendable. During his tenure as program coordinator, he has assembled a team of topflight faculty and staff. Together, they have created one of the college's fastest growing programs, with particular appeal to female students, who are generally underrepresented in the field of engineering. The department, established in 2009, is on track to become a nationally ranked program, according to Bowden.
