Winners of Gore Scholarship to be named Thursday, Feb. 26

Two high school seniors will be named Gore Scholars at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Marcus Welcome Center at Wichita State University. The $52,000 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarship is among the largest undergraduate awards in Kansas.

All finalists will receive competitive scholarship packages to attend WSU in the fall. The 10 finalists are:

- Meghan Carver, Mulvane, Kan., Mulvane High School
- Austin Greathouse, Garden City, Kan., Garden City High School
- MD Joad, Wichita, Kan., Wichita High School East
- Kyle Kopecky, Leawood, Kan., Blue Valley North High School
- Ryan Lee, Wichita, Kan., Eisenhower High School
- Amy Lightfoot, Colorado Springs, Colo., Rampart High School
- Katie Murray, Rolla, Kan., Rolla High School
- Emily Sarnacki, Winfield, Kan., Winfield High School
- Jessica Vold, Leavenworth, Kan., Leavenworth High School
- Christopher Vuong, Wichita, Kan., Wichita High School Southeast

To be invited to compete in the invitational, students had to have a 24 or higher ACT score and a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA. The 10 finalists this year have an average ACT score of 28 and average GPA of 3.8.
