Wichita State's HALO attends U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute

Recently, 20 members of the WSU Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO) attended the 33rd U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute in Chicago. It is one of the best networking experiences offered to Latino students, teachers, and the Hispanic community as a whole.

This year, HALO had the opportunity to meet political figures such as former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and former Governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson.

HALO members also participated in a series of workshops that focused on various topics such as, leading and motivating, Latina empowerment and Latinos in political offices.

Some of the members' favorite sessions included Anatomy of a Leader, where they learned how to discover their passion and channel that desire for success into a leadership role, and Google Technologies, where Google employees were available to answer questions and share how technology has helped bring education into developing nations.

HALO president Liliana Montiel said, "This experience has helped our members learn and practice networking skills, while also providing an environment where businesses and organizations can give students more information about career opportunities and internships offered."
