Business scholarship attendees hear before and after stories

LeRoy Unruh, who grew up in a small Kansas town, received his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1971 from Wichita State University. Unruh retired in January from GE Insurance Solutions in Overland Park, Kan. He contributes much of his professional success to his Shocker education and by establishing a scholarship, he wants to provide that same opportunity for success to other rural-area students. Unruh shared these sentiments at the W. Frank Barton School of Business Scholarship Reception hosted by the WSU Foundation on March 26 at the Marcus Welcome Center.

The recipient of the LeRoy and Trish Unruh Endowed Scholarship, Angela Hobbs, was happy to share her side of this story with the nearly 60 guests. Hobbs, a small town Kansas native, is majoring in accounting with minors in entrepreneurship and finance. She works full time at Cessna Aircraft Co., in its tax department, and also is very active on campus. Hobbs' future plans include pursuing a law degree with an emphasis in tax law.

The reception was emceed by Joseph Hunter, WSU Foundation vice president for major gifts. James Jordan-Wagner, interim dean of the Barton School, talked about the donors' scholarships and their impact on students. He also provided attendees an update on the business school's activities and campus news.
