East Meets West Symposium held at WSU East Meets West Symposium held at WSU

The East Meets West Research Symposium on Human Sport Performance Management Studies was held recently in the Human Performance Lab at WSU. Five students and two faculty members from the National Institute of Fitness and Sport (NIFS) in Kanoya, Japan, along with faculty from the Department of Human Performance Studies and the Department of Sport Management, presented information on their research, programs and facilities at their respective universities.

The mutual interests of NIFS and these two departments are significant given that NIFS is the only national-level university in Japan that focuses solely on sport, exercise and physical activity.

The group from Japan was visiting Wichita for 10 days as part of a formal partnership that is being developed between WSU and NIFS for the purposes of student/faculty exchange and research collaboration.

In addition to the seminar, they participated in tours of INTRUST Bank Arena, the downtown YMCA, Koch Arena, Eck Stadium and other university facilities.

They also went to Oklahoma City to tour Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark (OKC Dodgers baseball stadium) and Chesapeake Energy Stadium (OKC Thunder).

In addition, they were able to observe ongoing research activities in the Human Performance Lab, sit in on a few exercise science classes and meet WSU faculty and students.

The formal partnership between the two universities should be finalized later this year.
