WSU and WATC to explore possibility of deeper affiliation

The leadership of WSU and Wichita Area Technical College have agreed to explore the possibility of a deeper affiliation between the two institutions.

Wichita State University President John Bardo said: "Over the coming months, we are committed to working closely with WATC personnel, WSU's own faculty and staff and the Kansas Board of Regents to explore if such an integration can appropriately take place."

WATC is governed by the Sedgwick County Technical Education and Training Authority. A subcommittee of its members was appointed Monday to study the feasibility of stronger ties between the two institutions.

Jim Walters, chair of the SCTETA board, said: "WATC has distinguished itself as a national leader in post-secondary technical education. No decisions have been made yet, but the exploratory committee looks forward to identifying the best possible means by which WATC can continue to serve Wichita's technical training and economic development needs."

Earlier this year the two institutions launched Shocker Pathway as a partnership for students to combine WATC and WSU coursework for an Associate of Arts degree from WSU.
