Construction work to affect traffic along 17th Street in coming months

Reconstruction of the 17th Street sanitary sewer near the Wichita State campus will begin in early July with a projected completion in the fall. During the majority of construction, traffic on 17th Street will be limited to one lane in each direction between Yale Ave. and Bluff Street. Yale Avenue will be limited to one lane of traffic north bound between 16th and 17th streets. Access into neighborhoods will be maintained during construction through use of alternate side streets or by phasing of the construction activity. Intermittent flagging of traffic may occur during work hours.

The City of Wichita has contracted with Wildcat Construction to reconstruct the 17th Street sanitary sewer near the Wichita State campus. Work will begin in early July with a projected completion in the fall. However, as with many construction projects, these dates are dependent on weather conditions and the potential for delays if unforeseen utility conflicts are encountered.

This project will include replacement of the existing sanitary sewer in 17th Street from Yale Avenue to Bluff Street and on Yale Avenue from 16th to 17th streets. The project will also include water main replacement along 17th Street and pavement replacement in the work areas along both 17th Street and Yale Avenue.
