Important news from the Institutional Review Board

There has been a lot of media attention given to accusations of falsified methodology and data in a study performed by a UCLA graduate student that was recently published in "Science" but was later retracted. If you have not read about this issue, go to http://www.wichita.edu/j/?3908 for more information.

Wichita State's Institutional Review Board (IRB) reminds anyone interested in doing research, if it involves contact with human subjects (even secondary data), you must go through proper channels.

Information must be submitted to IRB prior to beginning any part of the study. In addition, keep in mind that raw data may need to be submitted to the publishers for review. It would appear from reading this study that these procedures were not followed, and/or may have been falsified. Should you have any questions concerning research with human subjects, please bring them to the attention of the Wichita State's IRB administrator at IRB@wichita.edu.
