Statement from WSU President John Bardo

"Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the deceased, Rayan Ibrahim Baba, who was a student in the College of Engineering," said President John Bardo. "He came to WSU in the 2015 spring semester.

"We're very appreciative of the excellent police work leading to the identification of suspects in his death Saturday morning. To the best of our knowledge, neither suspect has an affiliation with WSU.

"Wichita Police and University Police announced Monday that this wasn't a random act of violence, but an outgrowth of the relationship that already existed between the student and those taken into custody.

"Wichita State is a safe campus and safety is always a top priority. We are offering counseling support to students and expect to continue to meet with students, faculty and staff to hear their ideas and concerns," said Bardo.
