Student Health Services received a report Dec. 16 that our state lab (Kansas Department of Health and Environment) has confirmed the first influenza case of the 2008-2009 season. The case was diagnosed as influenza type A, subtype H1. So far this year, the Centers for Disease Control has found that circulating A/H1 viruses are similar to the A/H1 vaccine strain, which suggests the vaccine will work well against them. So with one case now being reported in our state it is not too late to get your flu vaccination. Student Health still has some vaccine and will be open through Tuesday, Dec. 23. Please call 978-3620 for times.
