Update from ITS: Chrome will no longer support technology required for Java applets

Google will release an update to the Chrome browser in September that will remove the Java functionality from the browser. This means any applications requiring Java will no longer run in the Chrome browser after the update is released and installed. Google Chrome automatically downloads and installs updates, so it may not be possible to prevent this update from installing on your computer.

If you use Google Chrome to access applications that require Java, you will need to start using a different browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox on Windows, or Safari or Firefox on MacOS, after Google pushes this update.

Some examples of applications that use Java in the browser are Banner (INB), Automic and the WebNow client for ImageNow. There are likely other applications and online sites that will be affected by this change.

If you experience issues with websites or applications while running Google Chrome, ITS recommends trying one of the browsers listed above before calling the helpdesk. If you continue having issues even with an alternate browser, contact the helpdesk at helpdesk@wichita.edu or 978-help (4357) and we will work with you to resolve the issue.
