Reminders, deadlines, events and Shocker Blast

* The Department of Biological Sciences will have a seminar at 4 p.m. today (Monday, Sept. 14) in 231 Hubbard Hall. Lynda Bonewald from the UMKC School of Dentistry will present "The Role of the Osteocyte in Bone-Muscle Crosstalk."

* The State of Kansas offers free flu shots for employees and their spouses (employees' children are not eligible) who have a Caremark/State ID number. Clinics will be held 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in 261 RSC (Olive Room). Fill out a consent form and bring it with you. * The Institutional Review Board (IRB) has updated many of the applications and templates on its website. Visit the IRB Documents and Forms page before your next submission to be sure you are using the most up-to-date forms. The IRB administrator will hold come-and-go open labs this fall for faculty, staff and students who have questions about the new forms or about their study in general in 405 Jardine Hall from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. today (Monday, Sept. 14); 12:30-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15; and 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4.

* Join Wichita State and the Fairmount Park Association for Celebrate Safe Communities from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Fairmount Park, 1647 N Yale Blvd., just south of campus. Enjoy a free family-friendly block party that will build camaraderie and promote a safer community.

* The Office of Research will hold a workshop for WSU faculty and staff titled "Improve Your Chances of Obtaining Internal Grants at WSU," from 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in 142 RSC. The workshop will address topics such as the role of the faculty support committee in regard to internal grant funding, how to apply for internal grants and how to improve your chances of being funded. * Faculty and staff are invited to submit a proposal on how you use technology in the classroom and workplace at the 5th Annual Learn More: 2015 WSU Technology Fair. Proposals are due by Thursday, Oct. 1, but priority will be given to proposals received by Thursday, Sept. 17. Submit a proposal at http://www.wichita.edu/learnmore. The fair helps the WSU community discover the many ways technology is used on campus today.

* WSU is a federally-funded organization that relies on grant monies for some programs.
