Reminders, deadlines, events and Shocker Blast

* The next Department of Biological Sciences Seminar will feature a presentation by Santimukul Santra from Pittsburg State University from 4-5 p.m. today (Monday, Sept. 21) in 231 Hubbard Hall. The talk will be "In the Age of Nano-Bio Technology: Designer Nanotheranostics to Target Cancer and Infectious Diseases."

* The first open enrollment meeting for Plan Year 2016 is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, in 233 RSC, presented by the State Department of Health. Additional campus presentations and webinars will also be available. All plans have changed, so plan to attend an informational meeting. Open enrollment begins Thursday, Oct. 1, and closes on Saturday, Oct. 31. All changes will be effective Jan. 1, 2016. Go to http://www.wichita.edu/j/?4243 for more information.

* Free registration is now open for the annual Michael Tilford Conference on Diversity and Multiculturalism on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20, at Pittsburg State University. Named after WSU's own Michael Tilford, the conference provides an opportunity for faculty, staff and administrators of Kansas Board of Regents institutions across the state to share ideas and resources for building culturally-competent campus communities. * A training session on Microsoft Outlook 2013 Part 2 will be offered from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, Oct. 22, and Tuesday, Jan. 19, in 119 Jabara Hall. This hands-on training covers Online Archiving, which is a new feature available to those who attend. To view training dates and register for the class log in to myWSU, locate the Quick Links channel and click on myTraining. Then locate the desired training session and click the Request button.

* The Office of Student Success will host Transition Tuesday from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, in the RSC. New students will have the opportunity to fill out a brief reflective questionnaire on their transition to WSU, talk with a transition mentor, learn about WSU resources and get a free cupcake. Please encourage your first-year students to stop by.

* Volunteers are needed for the 20th annual 5K Pumpkin Run. Cheer on participants and help at the fruit and water stations, and just have fun. Juice and donuts will be provided. The race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive at 7:30 a.m. to avoid traffic and parking issues. Email andy.sykes@wichita.edu to volunteer.

* The Office of Undergraduate Admissions invites faculty and staff to participate as an observer at this year's Distinguished Scholarship Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 21. Observers watch students participate in small group activities and rate them on their leadership skills. The approximate time commitment will be from 7:30 a.m.-noon.
