Reminders, deadlines and events

* There will be a test of the ShockerAlert System around 1 p.m. today (Friday, Sept. 18) to ensure that campus-wide emergency communication channels are functioning properly. During the test, you may see messages delivered via digital display boards, TV monitors, the WSU website, email, Facebook and cell phone texting. ShockerAlert will only be used to send emergency messages and to announce campus weather closings. To confirm that your cell phone is on the system, visit http://wichita.edu/alert

* Erbert and Gerbert's in the RSC will offer a free fountain drink with sandwich purchase today (Friday, Sept. 18). Plus, for every sandwich you purchase this week, you will be entered to win free sandwiches for a semester.

* Japan attracts many tourists, but what's so special about Japan? In this week's Cultural Ambassador Program from noon-1 p.m. today (Friday, Sept. 18) in 142 RSC, Marie Yoshimizu is going to give a presentation about her home country, including some interesting facts about Japan. Bring your lunch and travel the world without ever leaving WSU.

The bowl you make will be donated to the Empty Bowls Chili Cook-off fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 24, to benefit the Kansas Food Bank.

* A mural at the RSC east entrance will be on display from Thursday, Sept. 17-Wednesday, Sept. 23.
