* You are invited to participate in the third biannual Wu's Big Event at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Wu's Big Event III is WSU's volunteer initiative with the goal of getting students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university involved in a day of service. * Learn to work smarter, not harder, and enroll in LASI 170 Introduction to Library Research. This one-credit class starts Thursday, Oct. 8, with online and face-to-face choices. Don't wait to enroll. This class will save you time and energy teaching you effective ways to write a research paper.
* WSU's College of Education will host three ED Talks for the 2015-16 academic year. The first one is at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Marcus Welcome Center, featuring guest speaker Randy Watson. Watson will present data gathered on skills, characteristics and traits of a 24-year-old in Kansas.
* The Counseling & Testing Center is offering free Mental Health First Aid courses to help individuals better identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health issues in others. Help yourself, help a friend. Admission is free for students, and a light breakfast and afternoon snacks will be provided. * Interested in Alternative Spring Break? This year, Wichita State students will have a chance to serve in the Big Apple and work with hunger relief. To learn more about this opportunity, please attend the informational meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in 261 RSC. Details about the trip, logistics, travel, cost and application process will be addressed.
* Bring your families out for a fun-filled weekend at WSU's Family Weekend, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 2-4. A variety of activities and events have been planned to introduce guests to student life at Wichita State and to help them become more familiar with the university.
