* Interested in Alternative Spring Break? This year, Wichita State students will have a chance to serve in the Big Apple and work with hunger relief. To learn more about this opportunity, please attend the informational meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in 261 RSC. * The Madrigal Singers and Women's Glee Club present their first concert of the year at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Wiedemann Hall. Free admission for students with WSU ID.

* Learn to work smarter, not harder, and enroll in LASI 170 Introduction to Library Research. This one-credit class starts Thursday, Oct. 8, with online and face-to-face choices. Don't wait to enroll. This class will save you time and energy teaching you effective ways to write a research paper.

* Looking to develop skills as a student leader and get paid? The Office of First Year Programs is looking to hire new Transition Mentors to help welcome new students to Wichita State. The University Behavior Intervention Team (UBIT) is offering a training session from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, to provide students with tools they can use to help prevent individuals from harming themselves or others and assist persons in need. * Plan now if you're interested in joining the Middle East Travel Seminar to Istanbul, Cappadocia and Ephesus with political science professor Carolyn Shaw, June 14-25, 2016. The cost will be $2,500, with the first deposit of $500 due Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015. The cost includes airfare, lodging, meals and guided bus tours. * Doctorate and specialist students who are graduating in the Fall 2015 Commencement need to contact Julie at the University Bookstore for regalia. The deadline for purchase orders is 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, and the deadline for rental orders is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Payment is due at the time you place your order. Orders placed after the deadline will incur additional shipping and handling charges.

* Create the official Shocker Sandwich from Erbert and Gerbert's Bistro in the RSC and receive $150 in Shocker Dollars. Submissions for sandwich recipes will be accepted through Monday, Oct. 19.
