* Learn how to help friends, classmates, roommates and others who may be struggling. The University Behavior Intervention Team (UBIT) is offering a training session from 1:30-2:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 7) to provide students with tools they can use to help prevent individuals from harming themselves or others and assist persons in need. * Join Shocker Startup for its second general meeting at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 7) in 209 Hubbard Hall. All students are welcome to attend, and pizza will be provided. Shocker Startup is an entrepreneurship-based organization dedicated to providing students with opportunities to create, expand and maintain innovative ideas.

* Las Cafeteras, a group formed in East Los Angeles, will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the CAC Theater in celebration of Hispanic Heritage month. http://www.wichita.edu/j/?4314

* Learn to work smarter, not harder, and enroll in LASI 170 Introduction to Library Research. This one-credit class starts Thursday, Oct. 8, with online and face-to-face choices. Don't wait to enroll. This class will save you time and energy teaching you effective ways to write a research paper.

* The campus student group AHINSA invites you to GARBA Night from 7-11:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in Beggs Ballroom in the RSC. Enjoy an evening of dance, fun and joy. There will be an Indian folk dance, DJ, music and fun for dance aficionados.

* The Aging, Perception and Performance Lab (APPL) seeks volunteers to participate in auditory, visual and cognitive assessments for a speech understanding research experiment on WSU's main campus. * Student Conduct & Community Standards asks students to submit ideas for a new slogan. The slogan will be used in marketing, outreach and on promotional items. * The Office of International Education is selling international T-shirts. Purchase your shirt at http://www.wichita.edu/paybycard. Shirts are $13.99 plus tax and can be purchased in either gold or grey. Shirts will be available for pick up at Garvey International Center on 17th and Hillside. All proceeds from sales will go to a scholarship fund for international students.
