* Enjoy a night of great performances put on by organizations showing their Shocker pride. Student Activities Council (SAC) presents Songfest at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway. This event is free for students with WSU ID, and $5 for general admission. Tickets may be purchased at the door beginning at 6:15 p.m.
* The WSU Hunger Awareness Initiative, WSU Ceramics Guild and Ulrich Museum of Art invite you to attend the 2nd annual WSU Empty Bowls Chili Cook-Off from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in Henrion Hall. Admission to the event is $20 ($10 for WSU students with ID) and includes access to all-you-can-eat chili, as well as your choice of more than 1,000 ceramic bowls from handcrafted member organizations, artists from the WSU ceramics classes, ceramics instructors, local artists and community members. * The School of Social Work is hosting Social Work Friday on Nov. 6. We will have BSW Open Advising from 9:30 a.m.-noon for new, prospective and current undergraduate students in 535 Lindquist Hall. For prospective and current students interested in the Masters of Social Work Program, there will be "Pizza with Dr. Besthorn," from noon-1 p.m. in 535 Lindquist Hall. The BSW Program Orientation, which is required for admission to the Bachelor of Social Work Program, is from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in 223 Hubbard Hall. * Looking to develop skills as a student leader and get paid? The Office of First Year Programs is looking to hire new Transition Mentors to help welcome new students to Wichita State. * Interested in Alternative Spring Break? This year, WSU students have a chance to serve in the Big Apple and work with hunger relief. * A WSU Doctoral of Audiology student needs subjects who possess a mild hearing loss for her research on the possible relationship between the subtleties of music and how they influence one's ability to hear. If you are 18 to 50 years old, consider participating in a 45-minute study to be performed this October/November on campus. * Learn to teach classes such as cycling, Pilates, resistance training, dance-fitness, yoga and more. This free workshop is available to all students with an interest in health and fitness.
