WSU Model UN hosting high school conference

The WSU Model United Nations program will host a new high school Model UN conference on campus Friday, Jan. 16. Local schools participating include Maize, Valley Center, Wichita East, Bishop Carroll, Sunrise Academy and Pittsburg high schools.

The WA-MUN conference allows students to take on the role of diplomats from a foreign country in a simulation of UN committee meetings. Students become experts on particular global issues and then meet with other "diplomats" representing countries around the world to write resolutions.

These resolutions address a variety of global problems. The topics this year include landmines and environment and security partnerships. Students hone their skills in research, writing, public speaking and negotiation by participating in this endeavor.
