* During the 2016 spring break, Shocker student leaders from a variety of disciplines will participate in a service-learning experience and class that allows students to understand and make a positive impact in the area of food insecurity in New York City. We hope you will consider sponsoring a meal, meals for a day or a portion of anything will help. Go to http://www.wichita.edu/j/?4433 for more information.

* The WSU School of Social Work is collecting items to disperse to attendees at the Sedgwick County Point-in-Time count on Thursday, Jan. 28. This event is critical for collecting accurate data on the most vulnerable people who may be "street-level" homeless, and helps our county receive needed federal funding for local services. We are looking for toilet paper, gallon-sized baggies, flat-packaged wipes and travel-sized tissue packets to disperse to the hundreds who attend the county. Items can be dropped off in 528 Lindquist Hall now to Jan. 28, although donations are preferred by Thursday, Jan. 14. Donations also can be collected by arrangement within the Wichita area. Call 978-7250 if you have questions.

* FedEx, UPS and U.S. Postal Service have announced that rates will increase. FedEx rates will increase an average of 4.9 percent effective Jan. 4. Effective Jan. 17, U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail fees will rise about 8.6 percent, Priority Mail Express Mail will increase 14.4 percent, First Class Package Service will increase about 12.8 percent and Standard Post (retail ground) will increase 10 percent. However, First Class mail (letter) will remain the same.

* Free flu shots are still available to all enrolled students. Faculty and staff may also get a flu shot for $25 at Student Health Services in Ahlberg Hall.
