* University Libraries invites you to a farewell reception for Dean Donald Gilstrap. This come-and-go reception will take place from 2-4 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 2) in the lower level, Ablah Library. Join us in thanking him for his service to WSU and wishing him farewell as he moves on to be the Dean of University Libraries at the University of Alabama.

* Faculty and staff are invited to participate in a Weapons Safety Open Forum from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Dec. 4, in 211 Hubbard Hall to discuss the pending extension of Kansas weapons policies to include university campuses. The purpose of the forum is to engage WSU faculty and staff in an open discussion of the impacts of allowing weapons to be carried on campus, such as their impact on campus culture, climate and collective safety. * Jon Meacham, New York Times bestselling author of "Destiny and Power," will be featured in conversation with Wichita State's Ted Ayres at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Kansas Leadership Center, 325 E. Douglas Ave. Tickets are available for $35 at Watermark Books and Cafe, 4701 E. Douglas Ave., and include a hardback copy of "Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George H.W. Bush."

* The Unclassified Professional (UP) Senate will hold its general meeting from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in 208 Hubbard Hall. Join us to hear a campus update from President Bardo. Maureen Dasey-Morales, director of the Counseling and Testing Center, will address what is happening to help with campus mental health issues, and University Police Chief Sara Morris will discuss campus safety issues.

* Know a deserving Shocker who should be recognized for personal or professional achievement, service to WSU or contributions to society? Nominations for the 60th annual Alumni Awards are being accepted until Thursday, Dec. 31. The ceremony to honor award winners will be Thursday, June 2, and will continue the alumni association's proud tradition of celebrating outstanding Shockers. * Provide a Christmas gift for a local child through The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program. Student Involvement and the RSC will host an Angel Tree now to Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the RSC to help Wichita children have a Merry Christmas. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, stop by the University Information Desk on the first floor, RSC, to choose your angel off the tree. Gifts are returned back to the Information Desk once they are purchased.
