Reminders, deadlines and events

* The Office of Financial Operations and Business Technology will be closed from 8-11 a.m. today (Thursday, Dec. 3) for staff development. Also, they will be closed from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, to attend Gayla Shrank's retirement event.

* The Unclassified Professional (UP) Senate will hold its general meeting from 3:30-5 p.m. today (Thursday, Dec. 3) in 208 Hubbard Hall. Join us to hear a campus update from President Bardo. Maureen Dasey-Morales, director of the Counseling & Testing Center, will address what is happening to help with campus mental health issues, and University Police Chief Sara Morris will discuss campus safety issues.

* Members of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka plan to stage a protest at the northeast corner of 17th and Hillside at 4:45 p.m. today (Thursday, Dec. 3). The messages and demeanor of this group are purposefully provocative. Because Westboro thrives on conflict, you may want to avoid that intersection at that time.

* Faculty and staff are invited to participate in a Weapons Safety Open Forum from 10 a.m.-noon tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 4) in 211 Hubbard Hall to discuss the pending extension of Kansas weapons policies to include university campuses. The purpose of the forum is to engage WSU faculty and staff in an open discussion of the impacts of allowing weapons to be carried on campus, such as their impact on campus culture, climate and collective safety. * Deborah and John Bardo invite faculty and staff to a holiday reception from 2:30-4:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 4) in the RSC Beggs Ballroom. Celebrate the holidays and take a look back on WSU happenings throughout 2015.

* The final Business Booster Series event of the fall will be "Using and Understanding Analytics," led by Julie Martin, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 4) in Devlin Hall.
