* Members of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka plan to stage a protest at the northeast corner of 17th and Hillside at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. The messages and demeanor of this group are purposefully provocative. Because Westboro thrives on conflict, you may want to avoid that intersection at that time.

* Carrie Miller, the second candidate for executive director of university marketing, will make a presentation along with a Q&A from 9:30-10:15 a.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 2) in 266 RSC. University staff with communications responsibilities are especially encouraged to attend and complete comment forms. * University Libraries invites you to a farewell reception for Dean Donald Gilstrap. This come-and-go reception will take place from 2-4 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 2) in the lower level, Ablah Library. Join us in thanking him for his service to WSU and wishing him farewell as he moves on to be the Dean of University Libraries at the University of Alabama.

* The Tilford Commission on Diversity invites those who submitted an RSVP to an open house celebration from 2-4 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 2) in the RSC Spencer Room. Light refreshments will be served.

* The final Fall 2015 Physics Seminar Series talk will be from 2-3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 2) in 128 Jabara Hall. Professor Neil Christensan from Illinois State University will present "Relativistic Quantum Mechanics and the Higgs Boson."

* Jon Meacham, New York Times bestselling author of "Destiny and Power," will be featured in conversation with Wichita State's Ted Ayres at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Kansas Leadership Center, 325 E. Douglas Ave. Tickets are available for $35 at Watermark Books and Cafe, 4701 E. Douglas Ave., and include a hardback copy of "Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George H.W. Bush."

* Faculty and staff are invited to participate in a Weapons Safety Open Forum from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Dec. 4, in 211 Hubbard Hall to discuss the pending extension of Kansas weapons policies to include university campuses. The purpose of the forum is to engage WSU faculty and staff in an open discussion of the impacts of allowing weapons to be carried on campus, such as their impact on campus culture, climate and collective safety.
