Wichita State to sponsor all-day education and leadership conference

The Tu Futuro: Through Education & Leadership workshop will be held at Wichita State's Rhatigan Student Center on Friday, Jan. 8. The all-day workshop, organized by the Kansas Hispanic Education & Development Foundation (KHEDF), targets Hispanic high school juniors from USD 259 that have leadership potential and an interest in attending college. The workshop encourages students to attend college and provides information to help them prepare to apply and get into college.

The featured speaker will be Kaye Monk-Morgan, director of the Upward Bound Math Science TRIO program at WSU.

The workshop includes breakout sessions on Financial Aid for College, the Basics of Applying to College and Discovering Stem.

In addition, KHEDF hosts a college fair to provide the opportunity for students to meet one-on-one with college and university representatives from Butler Community College, Cowley College, Emporia State University, Friends University, Hutchinson Community College, Kansas State University, Newman University, the University of Kansas, Wichita Area Technical College and Wichita State University.

The Tu Futuro workshop serves about 125 students annually and is funded by AT&T Kansas and Wichita State University.
