Wichita State brings message of in-state tuition cost to Tulsa students

Wichita State University's Office of Admissions is loading up a bus with admissions representatives, students and WuShock to spread the word about the Shocker City Partnership to high school and community college students in Tulsa, Oklahoma, today (Thursday, Jan. 14).

The Shocker City Partnership is a new tuition discount program that makes it possible for residents of the Tulsa and Oklahoma City metropolitan areas to attend Wichita State for the same cost as Kansas residents. More information on the discount program is available at http://www.wichita.edu/shockercity.

The number of students admitted to WSU from Oklahoma is nearly 40 percent higher than it was a year ago at this time.

The WSU team will visit a few local Tulsa high schools and Tulsa Community College. The day concludes with an event from 5-7 p.m. at Freddy's Frozen Custard in Broken Arrow at 1151 E. Hillside Drive. Free custard will be offered to the first 150 student attendees, as well as giveaways and an opportunity to take pictures with WuShock. It's a natural place to meet, as Freddy's home base is in Wichita.

Shocker City Partnership applies to residents in 18 Oklahoma counties: Canadian, Cherokee, Cleveland, Creek, Grady, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Pottawatomie, Rogers, Tulsa, Wagoner and Washington.

"We've taken nonresident tuition costs out of the equation," said WSU Director of Undergraduate Admissions Bobby Gandu, "and I think this will help expand Shocker Nation in an intentional and meaningful way."
