WSU plans parking garage

Wichita State University is seeking approval by the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) for plans to build the university's first parking garage. If approved by KBOR and the Kansas Legislature, the garage will be built directly south of the Rhatigan Student Center, facing Perimeter Road.

The number of spaces in the multilevel garage will be determined by construction and financing costs.

The request to KBOR assumes a maximum average construction cost per space of $18,000. The project, estimated at $7.2 million, would be financed through parking fees and bond proceeds.

Planning and construction will take about 18 months after required approvals are obtained.
