SAC to host Sex Signals on Feb. 11

As you start spring semester classes, consider adding the following date as an out of the classroom learning opportunity for students. The Student Activities Council (SAC) will host Sex Signals at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, in the CAC Theater. This interactive program is intended to provide education and information concerning sexual assault and prevention in a comfortable environment using the students' own words and language to get the point across. A promotional video about the program can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAx9klHZ02c.

Sex Signals utilizes up-to-date research from the fields of psychology, sociology and women and gender studies with the following learning objectives in mind:

- provides a definition of active consent
- unpacks the importance and necessity of consent
- explains the intersection of alcohol and sexual assault
- frames rape as a moral issue
- encourages the importance of bystander intervention
- deconstructs the impact of rape on the victim and the community
- debunks myths surrounding rape, and survivors of violence

Considering the sensitive nature of discussions concerning sexual assault, staff members from the Counseling and Testing Center, Prevention Services Board and Conduct and Community Standards will be on hand. Please consider inviting your students to attend this program and use it as an opportunity for open discussion and reflection within the classroom.
