Media invited to announcement of WSU engineering Wallace Scholars

Wichita State University's College of Engineering will name 10 high school seniors as Wallace Scholars at the Wallace Reception at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, in the Marcus Welcome Center. Each scholar will receive a four-year renewable scholarship.

The parking lot directly north of the Marcus Welcome Center has been reserved for the media and guests.

The current Wallace Scholarship is worth $20,000 over four years. In addition to the naming of the scholars, WSU President John Bardo and College of Engineering Dean Royce Bowden will announce an increase in the scholarship award.

Selection for the Wallace Scholarship is based on recipients' high school GPA, ACT scores and performance at the annual Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering (WISE) Competition, which was held in November.

In addition to the scholarship, selected students will become part of the Wallace Scholars, a community of more than 40 engineering students from every class and major within the College of Engineering. Wallace Scholars are involved on the WSU campus and within the Wichita community to promote engineering, math and science, and community service.

The Wallace Scholarship is made possible through the Dwane and Velma Wallace Endowment, created in 1976, which supports scholarships for engineering students and provides funds for the College of Engineering. Since 1980, the endowment has benefited more than 300 engineering majors at WSU.
