Good news from the Center for Behavioral Health Initiatives

Are you a self-identified consumer of mental health services? Do you have an interest in what it might be like to pursue a career in the mental health field? The Center for Behavioral Health Initiatives at the Community Engagement Institute, at 238 Mead in Old Town, has recently been awarded a certificate of recognition by the National Alliance on Mental Illness for their outstanding and ongoing work with the Certified Peer Specialist Initiative.

Certified Peer Specialists (CPS) are self-identified consumers of mental health services, who are employed by community mental health centers or Consumer Run Organizations [ CROs] to help people develop a network for information and support from others who have been through similar experiences.

There are numerous trainings available throughout the state for the two level certification process; the next Level One training class will be in Great Bend on March 7-9. There are other upcoming dates in Hutchinson, Topeka and a training at the Community Engagement Institute in May.
