WSU to join in National TRIO Day celebration

Each February, communities across the nation celebrate the accomplishments of TRIO programs and their positive effects on hundreds of thousands of youth and adults. Since 1986 the day set aside to celebrate these accomplishments has been recognized as National TRIO Day, celebrated on college campuses, at statehouses, community centers and other venues around the nation. WSU's celebration will be from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex.

This event provides the perfect venue to showcase the TRIO programs, which include Communication Upward Bound, Disability Support Services, Educational Opportunity Centers, Talent Search/Project Discovery, Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program, Student Support Services, Upward Bound Math Science Regional Center, Upward Bound Wichita Prep and Veterans Upward Bound. The special programs unit also includes Kansas Kids @ GEAR UP, the Office of Disability Services and the Office of the Policy Analyst to celebrate the academic and career accomplishments of all students from each respective program.

The keynote speaker for the luncheon is motivational speaker Marcus Engel.

Also included in the day's events are educational/motivational tracks geared for middle school, high school and college adult learners. Winners of the TRIO Day Essay Writing Contest and designer of the logo for the National TRIO Day T-shirt will also be recognized along with Building Bridges Awardees.
