Statement on Kansas budget cuts from WSU President John Bardo

On Tuesday, March 1, Gov. Sam Brownback ordered state budget reductions in response to lower than expected tax collections.

The cuts included 3 percent, or about $17 million, to Regents universities.

Wichita State University remains focused on applied learning and research, because they offer the best long-term solutions to growing the Kansas economy.

I believe the impact of Tuesday's budget action will be a spending reduction of about $2 million from now through June. Because this will be difficult to manage in a short time period, I have instructed our leadership team to freeze all noncritical spending.

I am committed to preserving the jobs of WSU employees.
