A Message from President Bardo

On Saturday, March 12, two WSU students -- one of them Hispanic, one a prominent student leader who is Bengali -- reported to police that they were assaulted at a convenience store near campus in what appears to have been a racially motivated incident.

Wichita State University stands with the majority of Kansans in condemning all acts of anger and violence motivated by racism and intolerance.

At WSU, we constantly strive to build an environment where a diversity of culture, thought, experience and opinion can coexist in harmony. This core value is vital to the success of the university and to the nation as a whole.

We would ask that the community keep this in mind as debate and discussion continue during a heated presidential election season.

If you are a WSU student, faculty or staff member who has experienced any acts of violence, we want you to know that there is support available to you, including counseling. Contact the WSU Counseling and Testing Center at 316-978-3440 for more information.

If you have ideas or comments about diversity at WSU, please go to the President's Diversity Council website -- wichita.edu/diversitycouncil -- and fill out the contact form there.
