ShockPress visiting artist to speak about challenging woodblock prints

Kristin Powers Nowlin's work explores how American culture defines and determines race and the various ways that popular, scientific and academic cultures used to identify the race of a given individual. Her current work responds to print advertisements from the 1920s-1950s to create woodblock prints that challenge and expand on the original appropriated image. The ShockPress Visiting Artist Talk, "Carving Out Roots," will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Ulrich Museum. ShockPress Visiting Artist Talks are supported by the WSU Print Media department, WSU School of Art, Design and Creative Industries, and Tornado Alley Press.
