Give your input on how WSU can better serve first-year students
The goal of the study is to find out where WSU is doing well and where it can do better to serve first-year students.
Results from the philosophy and organization dimensions reports were discussed in a meeting Monday, Feb. 9.
The philosophy committee was chaired by Maureen Dasey-Morales and Ron Matson. The committee's primary recommendation is that the university needs a widely disseminated philosophy statement for the first-year experience at WSU.
The organization committee was chaired by Charles Fox and Gina Crabtree. The committee's primary recommendation is that the university needs central coordination of its programs for first-year students.
There are seven other dimensions being studied: learning, faculty, transitions, all students, diversity, roles and purpose, and improvement.
Each dimension committee is comprised of members from Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Unclassified and Classified Senate and students.
Once reports on all nine dimensions are received, Keith Pickus and Christine Schneikart-Luebbe will take the reports and create an overall university-wide report looking at ways and timeframes in which those recommendations can be implemented.
Input from faculty, staff and students is welcome and encouraged.
