Eric Sexton stepping down
"I am proud of the service and accomplishments during my tenure as a member of the staff of this great university," said Sexton. "It is time for me to change the trajectory of my professional life. I want to sincerely thank the countless students, faculty, staff and alumni who have helped me. I will always be a Shocker."
He concluded his resignation letter: "The university is in good hands and moving in a positive direction."
"I regret losing a colleague like Eric from the team but appreciate all that he has done for this university, his alma mater," said Provost and Senior Vice President Tony Vizzini. "I look forward to his future contributions to our community and the greater Shocker Nation."
Vizzini will assume operational supervision of Student Affairs while a national search is conducted for Sexton's successor.
"Eric has been an important representative of Wichita State at the local, state and national levels," said President John Bardo. "I salute the prominent roles Eric, his wife Kathy, and father Linwood have played in the university over seven decades. The Linwood Sexton Endowed Scholarship awarded again recently was a good reminder that the Sexton family's impact on WSU will continue in perpetuity."
Sexton received his undergraduate and master's degrees from WSU and served for 26 years in professional roles including athletic director and executive director of governmental relations and the board of trustees.
