Emergency phone system upgraded

The Campus Emergency Phone System has been partially upgraded with the addition and activation of 11 new phone poles throughout campus. The upgrades will continue this week with the replacement of the existing nine phone poles with new units at the same locations. Students, faculty and staff who have become familiar with existing campus emergency phone locations should be aware that those old phones are being deactivated and removed this week in preparation for their replacement.

In most cases, a new emergency phone pole is within sight of the old pole, but where one is not within sight, students, faculty and staff should be prepared to go into the nearest campus facility to use campus phone system and call 911 if an emergency situation arises.

As phone poles are replaced and activated, the blue lights on top of each pole should be energized and continuously lit. If a blue light is not burning on a pole, one should assume that the phone on the pole is not yet operational. The new emergency phone pole replacements should be made fully operational during spring break next week.
