Automating security patching for state owned devices

The Kansas State Legislature has mandated the timely installation of OS security patches on all WSU-owned computers and devices. If you sign in to your PC with your myWSU ID and password, these patches will be centrally managed and installed for you on a regular basis (as released). You will see a pop-up in the lower right-hand corner after an installation has occurred requesting a reboot if one is required. Please do so at your earliest convenience, as the installation is not complete until you do so. In the near future, this same automation will be available for Macintosh computers and Apple iOS devices.

If your PC or device does not fall in to the above categories, then you will be responsible for keeping your PC/device up-to-date. You should already be familiar with this process of Windows Update, the "Store" for Mac OS and iOS updates, and Linux and Android security patches.

As always, save all of your recent work and close all of your programs when you leave for the day in order to prevent loss of data.

If you have any questions or concerns about the automated installation of security updates or the procedure for performing these updates manually, please contact the ITS help desk at helpdesk@wichita.edu or 978-HELP.

We thank you for your efforts in keeping university systems secure.
