Westar bought the properties south of campus along 17th Street to obtain the right-of-way for new transmission lines they will be installing. The lines will ultimately cross the street to a new substation. The new substation will be about twice the size of the current substation located south of the Physical Plant shops. The new Kenmar substation will be located directly south of the current one and will require a land swap with WSU.
